The History of the Internet

The History of the Internet From Humble Beginnings to Global Ubiquity Introduction The internet is arguably one of the most transformative inventions in human history, reshaping how people communicate, learn, work, and play. But its story is not one of overnight creation; rather, it is a tale woven from decades of research, innovation, collaboration, and, at times, serendipity. Tracing its roots from early computer networking to the modern digital age, the internet’s evolution is a testament to the power of human ingenuity and shared vision. The Early Foundations: Pre-Internet Networking The journey of the internet began long before most people had ever heard the word "cyberspace." In the 1950s and 1960s, as computers became more powerful, researchers began to explore the idea of connecting computers to share information and computational resources. ·        Packet Switching: The concept central to the internet's functi...

The Android phone has an option which enables a home page icon group of some popular key functions, eg: Screen snapshot, rather than pressing a couple of buttons Volume Control Larger navigation buttons, eg, Home, Back, etc. It is designed for those users with dexterity issues, but can be very useful for anyone, in particular to take a screenshot. To enable it: Go to settings > Accessibility> Interaction and Dexterity > turn on Assistant Menu. An ICON with 4 small squares will appear, which can be moved around the screen as desired.  Click the icon, and a panel will appear with various function buttons.

Whats all this "WHAT 3 WORDS" App all about

Having said in a previous post about the most useful fre app, well, here is another!  ...and why it would have helped if it had been installed.....   The other day, I was called by one of my relatives who was stuck in the middle of nowhere having realised he had left his wallet at home   The problem was that it was out in the middle of the countryside which had no address. So, he phoned me and luckily I was not far away, so when I asked where he was, the reply was. "Just go up Smith Lane, until you see a white house on the left, just before that there are large fir trees on the left next to a farm gate pull in, I will see you there".   Of course I zoomed past missed the white house and then spend 20 mins going back and forth looking for a white house opposite fir trees.   When I got there, "I asked why did you not WHAT 3 WORDS?" "I dont have it and didnt think I would need it"  "Well it is obvious you needed it now, or rather I needed you to have it a...

Laptop Takedown

Image
A great session today with 19 people attending, Andy shows how to dismantle an old laptop, examining the components while Steve explained some of the functions. This included how to dispose of old equipment according to the WEEE waste regulations and how to repurpose the M2 memory which was used as the ibternal SSD..     Other issues covered were, default apps, Bitwardwn Password Manager, Windows  Snipping Tool (copies any section of screen and creates a JPEG file) and personalisation of windows cursor.    I would like to say that the Snipping Tool which is included on every Win PC is not well known and is probably the most useful free feature I have used in a long time.
